Gameweek two still has almost nothing to go on in terms of current-season form, so we’ve leaned on the same principle as last week: genuine head-to-head history and whatever’s structurally true about a team, rather than reading too much into a single opening result. A few of these fixtures already have a really strong recent trend worth knowing before kick-off.
Crystal Palace vs Manchester City
City’s overall record here is about as one-sided as this list gets, but Palace have landed one genuine, memorable blow against them recently — and it wasn’t a fluke scrappy point, it was a trophy.

Brighton have won three of the last five meetings with Chelsea, including two separate 3-0 wins in that stretch — a striking turnaround in a fixture Chelsea used to dominate as a matter of course.

Brentford have 13 wins to Leeds’ 15 from 46 all-time meetings, with 18 draws — and the last two meetings between the clubs have both finished level, a 0-0 and a 1-1.

Sunderland vs Fulham
Sunderland’s return to the Premier League brings a full Stadium of Light against a Fulham side that has generally travelled well against them in recent meetings.
Fulham have won three of the last five meetings with Sunderland, including a 1-3 win at the Stadium of Light as recently as February 2026, in a fixture the Black Cats otherwise lead 26 wins to 22 from 68 all-time meetings.

Manchester United vs Ipswich Town
United’s all-time dominance of this fixture is emphatic, and Ipswich’s history at Old Trafford in particular makes for grim reading if you support the visitors.
United’s 9-0 win over Ipswich in March 1995 remains the joint-biggest victory in Premier League history, and Ipswich’s last competitive win over United of any kind came in a 1997 League Cup tie. United have won 30 of the 59 all-time meetings to Ipswich’s 19.
The angle: Manchester United to win & over 2.5 goals. Nobody’s expecting a repeat of 9-0, but the historical gulf here is stark, and Old Trafford against newly promoted opposition is exactly the kind of game United are built to win comfortably and with goals.

Aston Villa vs Arsenal
Bank Holiday Monday Night Football closes out the round with a fixture that’s been shared fairly evenly across the last two meetings, even if Arsenal narrowly lead the all-time series.
Arsenal lead the 207-game all-time series 89 wins to 72, and both sides have found the net in each of the last two meetings — a 4-1 Arsenal win and a 2-1 Villa win either side of the turn of the year.
The angle: Arsenal to win & both teams to score. Arsenal’s squad depth should be enough on the road, but Villa’s own attacking threat at home means backing a clean sheet feels riskier than backing goals at both ends, which is exactly what’s happened in each of the last two meetings.
