Arsenal v Bayern Munich Champions League

Arsenal’s performance in 2024 has been impressive, clinching victories in 11 out of 14 matches and only facing defeat twice in that span. In contrast, Bayern Munich has dominated their recent encounters with Arsenal, securing a 5-1 win in each of the last three matches. However, the Bavarians have encountered difficulties on the road, losing four out of their last six away games, with goals from both sides in their recent four away fixtures. It appears Bayern Munich is headed for trouble in London.

Bayern Munich’s season hasn’t been memorable, with a looming possibility of ending without a trophy for the first time since the 2011/2012 season unless they can turn their fortunes around in the Champions League. Yet, their recent form does not bode well, having only secured four wins in their last ten matches, including losses to teams fighting relegation in the Bundesliga and displaying inconsistency elsewhere. With a defeat following their match against Borussia Dortmund and a 3-2 loss to a mid-tier Heidenheim, they’re lacking momentum ahead of their critical match against Arsenal.

Thomas Tuchel’s squad has struggled away from home, with only one win in their last six away matches, which is concerning as they prepare to visit the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal, on the other hand, has been formidable at home, winning their last six matches.

With Arsenal winning 11 of their 14 matches this year, including significant victories and a standout 3-1 win against Liverpool, Mikel Arteta’s team is poised to challenge Bayern’s recent dominance in their matchups.

Despite Arsenal’s strong position, the match may not be a clean sheet for them. Bayern, despite their recent struggles, has the firepower to score, having netted 24 times in their last eight games. Arsenal has also seen goals from both teams in three of their last five home matches and has conceded in half of their Champions League matches this season, suggesting Bayern might find the back of the net even if they don’t win.

The match at the Emirates is set to be an exciting one, with Arsenal’s attack bolstered by the return of Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli. Arsenal’s forward line, having scored 17 goals in their last six home matches, looks capable of overcoming Bayern’s defence. Bayern, not lacking in talent with players like Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, and Serge Gnabry, should also pose a threat. However, with Manuel Neuer likely missing, Arsenal is favoured to win this thrilling Champions League match.
