With the heavies results in the first round, Russia have surprised the world with a 5-0 in the opening game against Saudi Arabia. While the Russians weren’t really tested in their first game, the second game will be crucial as it might decide their advancement to the second round.
A REAL TEST FOR RUSSIA
The Russian team entered the tournament under a lot of criticism from the national press. One commentator said that this team is the worst in the history of the Russian football. However, the players proved everyone wrong in their first game.
Russia looked comfortable at the back and possessed great purpose going forward. They scored five goals against a relatively weaker opponents. It remains to be seen if they can do the same against Egypt and Uruguay.
Russia’s strongest finish to the World Cup came in 1966 when they reached the Semi finals and were beaten only by West Germany. They faced Portugal in the run for the third place but also lost. Russia have also had a strong start to the World cup finals when they beat Cameroon 6-1 in 1994.
SALAH IS BACK
After his injury in the Champions League final at the hands of Sergio Ramos, Salah have been injured for about a month now. The rapid winger didn’t feature in his country’s first game against Uruguay, however he was named among the subs.
Egypt have a good case of themselves with their defensive organisation against Uruguay but they were so sloppy in the final third. Surely the inclusion of Mohamed Salah will make a big difference in the attacking side of the Pharoes.
